Grief & Loss

Grief & Loss

The thing is, you think you have time.

Loss is something we deal with every day, even if we don't always realize it because we keep going. Work, play sports, see friends, relax and move on.” Until you lose something or someone and have to hit the brakes hard.

The outbreak of the Covid pandemic and its effects is of course a good example of this; everything is different since this disease is in the world. Perhaps in the literal sense because of the loss of a loved one, but perhaps also as a result of the measures and the polarization in society. We all lost the certainty that everything will one day return to a situation that we used to call "normal". Together we have lost a lot of security in many ways.

And although you mourn, miraculously life goes on outside.

Grief is a non-linear process, in which you cannot outline what is to come or how to anticipate to it. It's there, you have to deal with it. Nothing more difficult than well-intentioned messages of support that just don't seem to cover how you feel or obligatory condolences.

Everything seems different since the loss and you are not sure if you will ever feel like yourself again. Sometimes this can make you feel alone, misunderstood; everyone carries on as if nothing happened. Loss brings you back to the core of existence, life, death.
